Application

The Application window shows information about the application activity. 

The grid located at the top of the window shows each database partition. It allows you to filter applications for each database partition.

The next grid shows each individual application with the following information for each one:

Name The name of the application running at the client, as known to the database or DB2(R) Connect server.
Partition Database partition number.
Agent A system-wide unique ID for the application. On a single-partitioned database, this identifier consists of a 16 bit counter. On a multi-partitioned database, this identifier consists of the coordinating partition number concatenated with a 16 bit counter. In addition, this identifier will be the same on every partition where the application may make a secondary connection.
Auth The authorization ID of the user who invoked the application that is being monitored. On a DB2 Connect(TM) gateway node, this is the user's authorization ID on the host.
Address This is the communication address of the client. For example, it could be an SNA net ID and LU partner name, or an IP address and port number for TCP/IP.
PID The process ID of the client application that made the connection to the database.
Status The current status of the application.
DB Name The real name of the database for which information is collected or to which the application is connected. This is the name the database was given when created.
Con Time The date that an application started a connection request.
Idle Time Number of seconds since an application has issued any requests to the server. This includes applications that have not terminated a transaction, for example not issued a commit or rollback.
Selectivity Applications that read very many rows from a table but return only a few rows to the application.
Cache Overflows The number of times that the catalog cache overflowed the bounds of its allocated memory.
Log Used The amount of log space used in the current unit of work of the monitored application.
Lock Waits The total number of times that applications or connections waited for locks.
Lock Timeouts The number of times that a request to lock an object timed-out instead of being granted.
Deadlocks The total number of deadlocks that have occurred.
Lock Escalations The number of times that locks have been escalated from several row locks to a table lock.
Exclusive Lock Escalations The number of times that locks have been escalated from several row locks to a table lock.
Lock Wait Time The total elapsed time waited for a lock.

By default, the last snapshot is displayed in the grid. Use the slidder (or the arrow buttons) located at the top of the grid to navigate through the collected snapshots. In monitoring, the "Update" button must be unchecked to be able to navigate through the collected snapshots.

Select one or more applications in the grid (Check box at the left of the grid) to update the graphes located at the bottom of the window. If several applications are selected, the statistics are aggregated.

Hits Ratio (%)

Overall The buffer pool hit ratio indicates the percentage of time that the database manager did not need to load a page from disk in order to service a page request because the page was already in the buffer pool. The greater the buffer pool hit ratio, the lower the frequency of disk I/O.
Package The number of package cache lookups that have resulted in applications retrieveing required SQL information from package cache.
Catalog The number of times that catalog cache was accessed to retrieve table descriptor information.

CPU (microsec)

User The total CPU time used by database manager agent process.
System The total system CPU time used by the database manager agent process.

Sort and Hash Join (Unit/s)

Sorts The total number of sorts that have been executed.
Hash Joins The total number of hash joins executed.

Sort and Hash Join Overflow (%)

Sort Overflows The percentage of total number of sorts executed that ran out of sort heap and may have required disk space for temporary storage.
Join Overflows The percentage of total number of hash joins executed that hash join data exceeded the available sort heap space.
Join Small Overflows The percentage of total number of hash joins executed that hash join data exceeded the available sort heap space by less than 10%.
Join Loops The percentage of total number of hash joins executed that a single partition of a hash join was larger than the available sort heap space.

Write (Unit/s)

Data Indicates the number of times a buffer pool data page was physically written to disk.
Index Indicates the number of times a buffer pool index page was physically written to disk.
Total Indicates the number of times a buffer pool data page, data page for an XML storage object (XDA), index page were physically written to disk.
Direct The number of write operations that do not use the buffer pool.

Read (Unit/s)

D Logical Indicates the number of data pages which have been requested from the buffer pool (logical) for temporary, regular and large table spaces.
D Physical Indicates the number of data pages read in from the table space containers (physical) for temporary, regular and large table spaces.
I Logical Indicates the number of index pages which have been requested from the buffer pool (logical) for temporary, regular and large table spaces.
I Physical Indicates the number of index pages read in from the table space containers (physical) for temporary, regular and large table spaces.
T Log Indicates the number of data pages, pages for XML storage object (XDA) data, index pages which have been requested from the buffer pool (logical) for temporary, regular and large table spaces.
T Phys Indicates the number of data pages, data pages for an XML storage object (XDA), index pages read in from the table space containers (physical) for temporary, regular and large table spaces.
Direct The number of read operations that do not use the buffer pool.

Lock Wait Time (ms)

Average elapsed time that applications or connections waited for locks.

Lock Held and Waiting (unit/s)

Waiting Indicates the number of agents waiting on a lock.
Held The total number of locks currently held by all agents for the application.
