Databases

The Databases window shows information about the databases activity. 

The grid located at the top of the window shows databases on each individual partition with the following information for each one:

Name The real name of the database for which information is collected or to which the application is connected. This is the name the database was given when created.
Partition Database partition number.
Appl Connected Indicates the number of applications that are currently connected to the database.
Appl Active (%) The percentage of total applications connected that are currently processing a request.
Appl Waiting Locks (%) The percentage of total applications connected that are currently waiting for locks.
Log Used (%) The percentage of available active log space in the database that is currently being used to hold uncommitted transaction.
Active Sorts The number of sorts in the database that currently have a sort heap allocated.
Sort Heap Allocated (%) The percentage of available sort heap space being used in the database.
Lock List Use (%) The percentage of available lock list space being used in the database.
Lock Waits The total number of times that applications or connections waited for locks.
Lock Timeouts The number of times that a request to lock an object timed-out instead of being granted.
Deadlocks The total number of deadlocks that have occurred.
Lock Escalations The number of times that locks have been escalated from several row locks to a table lock.
Exclusive Lock Escalations The number of times that locks have been escalated from several row locks to one exclusive table lock, or the number of times an exclusive lock on a row caused the table lock to become an exclusive lock.
Lock Wait Time (ms) The total elapsed time waited for a lock.
Lock List Use to Maxlock (%) The percentage of max locks that are currently using in lock list for a database.
Lock Memory per con (Avg bytes) Average lock memory used per connection.
Log Used (MB) The total amount of active log space currently used in the database.
Log Free (MB) The amount of active log space in the database that is not being used by uncommitted transactions.
Max Log Used (MB) The maximum amount of total log space used.
Max Sec Used (MB) The maximum amount of secondary log space used.
Log Secondaries Files The total number of secondary log files that are currently being used for the database.
Package Cache Used (%) Size of the package cache as a percent of the configuration parameter size.
Package Cache num Overflows The number of times that the package cache overflowed the bounds of its allocated memory.
Start Time The date of the connection to the database (at the database level, this is the first connection to the database), or when the activate database was issued.

By default, the last snapshot is displayed in the grid. Use the slidder (or the arrow buttons) located at the top of the grid to navigate through the collected snapshots. In monitoring, the "Update" button must be unchecked to be able to navigate through the collected snapshots.

Select one or more databases in the grid (Check box at the left of the grid) to update the graphes located at the bottom of the window. If several database partition are selected, the statistics are aggregated.

Hits Ratio (%)

Overall The buffer pool hit ratio indicates the percentage of time that the database manager did not need to load a page from disk in order to service a page request because the page was already in the buffer pool. The greater the buffer pool hit ratio, the lower the frequency of disk I/O.
Index Indicates the percentage of all read request for index pages that were satisfied by a page found in the buffer pool.
Package The number of package cache lookups that have resulted in applications retrieveing required SQL information from package cache.
Catalog The number of times that catalog cache was accessed to retrieve table descriptor information.

Sort and Hash Join (Unit/s)

Sorts The total number of sorts that have been executed.
Hash Joins The total number of hash joins executed.

Sort and Hash Join Overflow (%)

Sort Overflows The percentage of total number of sorts executed that ran out of sort heap and may have required disk space for temporary storage.
Join Overflows The percentage of total number of hash joins executed that hash join data exceeded the available sort heap space.
Join Small Overflows The percentage of total number of hash joins executed that hash join data exceeded the available sort heap space by less than 10%.
Join Loops The percentage of total number of hash joins executed that a single partition of a hash join was larger than the available sort heap space.

Write (Unit/s)

Data Indicates the number of times a buffer pool data page was physically written to disk.
D Sync The number of physical write requests were performed synchronously (that is, physical data page writes that were performed by database manager agents).
Index Indicates the number of times a buffer pool index page was physically written to disk.
I Sync The number of physical index write requests were performed synchronously. That is, physical index page writes that were performed by database manager agents.
Total Indicates the number of times a buffer pool data page, data page for an XML storage object (XDA), index page were physically written to disk.
T Sync The number of physical data, index write requests performed synchronously (include on XML storage object data pages). That is, physical page writes that were performed by database manager agents.
Direct The number of write operations that do not use the buffer pool.
Log The number of log pages written to disk by the logger.

Read (Unit/s)

D Logical Indicates the number of data pages which have been requested from the buffer pool (logical) for temporary, regular and large table spaces.
D Physical Indicates the number of data pages read in from the table space containers (physical) for temporary, regular and large table spaces.
D Sync Indicates the number of physical reads that were performed synchronously (that is, physical data page reads that were performed by database manager agents).
I Logical Indicates the number of index pages which have been requested from the buffer pool (logical) for temporary, regular and large table spaces.
I Physical Indicates the number of index pages read in from the table space containers (physical) for temporary, regular and large table spaces.
I Sync Indicates the number of physical reads that were performed synchronously (that is, physical index page reads that were performed by database manager agents).
T Log Indicates the number of data pages, pages for XML storage object (XDA) data, index pages which have been requested from the buffer pool (logical) for temporary, regular and large table spaces.
T Phys Indicates the number of data pages, data pages for an XML storage object (XDA), index pages read in from the table space containers (physical) for temporary, regular and large table spaces.
T Sync The number of physical reads performed synchronously (include on XML storage object data pages) (that is, physical data and index page reads that were performed by database manager agents (include on XML data)).
Direct The number of read operations that do not use the buffer pool.
Log The number of log pages read from disk by the logger.

Lock Wait Time (ms)

Average elapsed time that applications or connections waited for locks.

Lock Held and Waiting (unit/s)

Wainting Indicates the number of agents waiting on a lock.
Held The total number of locks currently held by all applications in the database.

I/O Agents (%)

Victim Cleans The percentage of defined page cleaners that were invoked to perform victim page cleans.
Thresh Cleans The percentage of page cleans that were a result of a buffer pool reaching the dirty page threshold.
Log Cleans The percentage of page cleans that were the result of log space shortage.

The grid located at the bottom of the window shows each individual memory pool with the following information for each one:

Pool The type of memory pool.
Partition Database partition number.
DB Name The real name of the database for which information is collected or to which the application is connected. This is the name the database was given when created.
Current Size (KB) The current size of a memory pool.
Max Size (KB) The internally configured size of a memory pool in DB2(R) database system.
Current Use (%) The percent of the heap that is currently allocated.
Size WM (KB) The largest size of a memory pool since its creation.
WM Use (%) The amount of heap space used when the heap was at its largest allocated size as a percent of the total allocated size.
Secondary Id An additional identifier to help determine the memory pool for which monitor data is returned.
