Memory

The Memory window shows information about the caches activity.

Cache Hit Ratio (%)

Data cache Percentage of time a required data block is found in the data cache.
Procedure cache The procedure cache hit ratio indicates the percentage of execution plan pages read from the procedure cache vs. disk.

Metadata cache

Databases: When Adaptive Server opens a database, it has to access information about it in the respective system table: sysdatabases . The metadata cache for databases lets Adaptive Server access that information that describes it in the sysdatabases row directly in its in-memory structure

Objects: When Adaptive Server accesses an object, it needs to read information about it in the corresponding system table: sysobjects. The metadata cache for objects lets Adaptive Server access that information that describes it in the sysobjects row directly in its in-memory structure.

Indexes: When Adaptive Server accesses an index, it needs to read information about it in the corresponding system table: sysindexes. The metadata cache for indexes lets Adaptive Server access that information that describes it in the sysindexes row directly in its in-memory structure.

Active databases Number of open databases
Free databases Number of free databases
Active Objects Number of open objects
Free Objects Number of free objects
Active Indexes Number of open indexes
Free Indexes Number of open indexes

Data cache details

The grid displays each individual data cache with the following information for each one:

Name Name of cache
Id Unique identifier for the cache
Hit Ratio % Percentage of time a required data block is found in the data cache.
Searches/s Cache searches directed to the cache per second
Logical Reads/s Number of buffers retrieved from the cache per second
Phys. Reads/s Number of buffers read into the cache from disk per second
Phys Writes/s Number of buffers written from the cache to disk per second
Buffer Pools The number of buffer pools within the cache
Partitions Number of partitions currently configured for the cache
Size (KB) Total cache size in KBytes
Free (KB) Free size in KBytes
Stalls Number of “dirty” buffer retrievals

By default, the last snapshot is displayed in the grid. Use the slidder (or the arrow buttons) located at the top of the grid to navigate through the collected snapshots. In monitoring, the "Update" button must be unchecked to be able to navigate through the collected snapshots.

Select one or more caches in the grid (Check box at the left of the grid) to update the graphes located at the bottom of the window. If several caches are selected, the statistics are aggregated.

Hit ratio (%)

Percentage of time a required data block is found in the data cache.

I/O /sec

Physical reads Number of buffers read into the cache from disk per second
Physical writes Number of buffers written from the cache to disk per second
Logical reads Number of buffers retrieved from the cache per second
Searches Cache searches directed to the cache per second
