Disk

The Disk window shows information about the disks.

It is splitted in two parts:

1. Aggregated Statistics: Disk Storage performance (KBytes per second)

Aggregated storage performance statistics

2. Per Disk statistics

Disk reads/writes/commands/bus resets

reads Number of disk reads in the period
writes Number of disk writes in the period
commands Number of disk commands issued in the period
commands aborted Number of disk commands aborted in the period
bus resets

Number of bus resets in the period />

Disk latency in milliseconds

kernel The average time spent in ESX Server VMKernel per command.
kernel read The average time spent in ESX Server VMKernel per read
kernel write The average time spent in ESX Server VMKernel per write.
device The average time taken to complete a command from the physical device.
device read The average time taken to complete a read from the physical device.
device write The average time taken to complete a write from the physical device.
queue The average time spent in the ESX Server VMKernel queue per command.
queue read The average time spent in the ESX Server VMKernel queue per read.
queue write The average time spent in the ESX Server VMKernel queue per write.
total The average amount of time taken for a command from the perspective of a Guest OS. This is the sum of Kernel Command Latency and Physical Device Command Latency.
total read The average amount of time taken for a read from the perspective of a Guest OS. This is the sum of Kernel Read Latency and Physical Device Read Latency.
total write The average amount of time taken for a write from the perspective of a Guest OS. This is the sum of Kernel Write Latency and Physical Device Write Latency.

By default, the last snapshot is displayed in the grid. Use the slidder (or the arrow buttons) located at the top of the grid to navigate through the collected snapshots. In monitoring, the "Auto-Update" button must be unchecked to be able to navigate through the collected snapshots.

Select one or more disks in the grid (Check box at the left of the grid) to update the graphes located at the bottom of the window. If several disks are selected, the statistics are aggregated.
